SIMON & SCHUSTER UK STRIKE NEW DEAL WITH JOURNALIST CLAIRE FROST by SJV
Simon & Schuster UK has acquired UK & Commonwealth rights to two new books from Fabulous assistant editor Claire Frost in a deal with Tanera Simons at Darley Anderson Literary Agency. Married at First Swipe, a commercial women’s fiction novel that navigates the highs and lows of online dating – with a twist – will publish as a #DigitalOriginals eBook in summer 2020, with a paperback and audiobook following closely in the autumn.
Married at First Swipe is commercial women’s fiction at its best: fun, fresh and full of heart. It follows the lives of two best friends – Hannah, an adventurous spirit still looking for her perfect man, and Jess, married with kids who’s left wondering whether “settling” is all it’s cracked up to be – as they embark on a crazy scheme involving an arranged marriage in an attempt to save their failing dating app. This is a hilarious and heart-warming story that navigates the tumultuous world of dating in the modern, tech-fuelled world, and asks whether it is really possible to find true love, online or off.
Simon & Schuster UK editor Rebecca Farrell, who secured the deal, says: ‘We’re incredibly excited to be publishing two more books from Claire. Her astute observations about the world of social media and dating – and most importantly, friendship – are so full of heart and humour, making her writing engaging and relatable to her audience. Married at First Swipe is the perfect story to follow Claire’s fantastic debut.’
Claire Frost says: ‘Having worked with the inspirational team at Simon & Schuster on my debut, I am completely thrilled – and extremely proud – that I’ll be publishing my next two books with them, too. In writing Married at First Swipe I wanted to take a look at whether it’s possible to navigate past appearance and profiles to find love online and whether the friends and family we trust most can actually help us swipe right on our perfect match. And I am so excited that this book has found its perfect home with Rebecca and Simon & Schuster.’
Frost’s debut novel, Living My Best Life, was published as a #DigitalOriginals eBook in July of this year as part of Simon & Schuster UK’s Books and the City programme, the publisher’s hub for commercial female fiction. The debut is a novel about friendship and social media, centred around an Instagram star living a lie online, and has received widespread praise from many high-profile authors, including Milly Johnson, Rosie Walsh, Sarah Morgan and Stacey Halls. Living My Best Life publishes in paperback on 5th September.
Agent, Tanera Simons, says: ‘Claire’s writing is perceptive, funny, and offers a grounding insight into the disconnect between the polished veneer of social media and the reality that lies behind it. I’m delighted that the brilliant Simon & Schuster will be publishing the timely and relatable Married at First Swipe next year.’
