Published today, Snowy Nights at Castle Court is part one in a brand new series from bestselling author Holly Hepburn. It tells the story of two women following their dream of opening a biscuit shop in the gorgeous Castle Court, a three-storey food court tucked away behind Chester’s bustling streets.

Cat is the baker. Burned out from working long hours as a chef in Paris, she is ready for a slower pace of life.

Sadie is the creativity behind the operation. A single mum nursing a broken heart, she ices the biscuits that Cat bakes and spends her time making the shop, Smart Cookies, look beautiful.

Of course, opening a new business and cracking their way into Castle Court’s well-established community is no easy thing. But, through all of the ups and downs, they have each other and their consistently delicious biscuits!

This book made my mouth water with every page turn and made me very jealous of those clever people who can actually bake! As a result, I have looked up an incredibly easy biscuit recipe that even a baking dunce like me can follow.

100g (4 oz) butter

50g (2 oz) caster sugar

A few drops of vanilla extract

175g (6 oz) plain flour

Prep time: 10min

Cooking time: 25min

1. Preheat the oven to 150 C / Gas 2.

2. Add butter and sugar in a bowl and mix well until light and fluffy.

3. Add the vanilla, mix, then add the flour and mix well. Roll out until it is about 5mm thick. Cut into the shape of your choice.

Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

At this point you can go crazy with the icing, melted chocolate, sweets and sprinkles to make them worthy of a Smart Cookies window display. And if you do, please tweet pictures to #SnowyNightsatCastleCourt. We’d love to see them!
