Living My Best Li(f)e by Claire Frost
This heart-warming and funny novel is the perfect balm for the insta-weary mind – get ready to shatter the illusion that is #LivingMyBestLife
Bell never thought she’d be facing her 40th birthday single. Recently dumped by her boyfriend of ten years, Bell is struggling to move on with her life – and surrender the fleecy pyjamas she’s been living in since January. Sick of being bombarded by #blessed on social media and feeling like her life doesn’t live up to everyone else’s, she decides it’s time for a change; time to find out who she really is, not who she thinks she should be.
Enter Millie, a successful online influencer posting under the handle @mi_bestlife. But as a single mum trying to make ends meet and stay ahead of the younger generation snapping at her heels, her Instagram feed is far more #BestLie than #BestLife. With the internet trolls continuing to bring her down and an ex who cares more about playing football than seeing their son, Millie begins to wish her life was more like her filters.
It isn’t until Millie and Bell’s paths cross that the two women begin to realise what they’re missing. Will Bell finally learn to live life for herself? And will Millie see that she needs to start living for the moment and not for the likes?
Jules says: ‘Living My Best Li(f)e by Claire Frost is a novel about fast and firm friendships, community and friends working towards a better future. As well as dealing with the often addictive nature of social media and how life can be drastically different to how it appears online.’ Read her full review here.
Rebecca says: ‘Living My Best Li(f)e is a feel-good story of friendship and community spirit that would be a ideal holiday read. It’s also an important reminder that what you see on social media isn’t always the truth – sometimes #livingmybestlife is a little more #livingmybestlie.’ Read her full review here.
Joanne says: ‘Living My Best Life is a fun and enjoyable read. It reflects the modern obsession with showing that you are living your best life, at least online. But is also shows that actually living your best life for real and being more honest online is ultimately more important. Friendship and community spirit comes through strongly in the book and there are a few fledgling romances blossoming as well. There were plenty moments which made me smile in this entertaining debut novel – a feel-good read.’ Read her full review here.
Catriona says: ‘This book was just absolute perfection. It has all the feelings of those classic rom coms we love so much but with a fresh take that comes from a debut novelist – especially when that someone is so wrapped up in the world of social media.’
Simona says: ‘Claire Frosts’ writing is fresh, funny, down to earth and just great to read. A heart-warming book full of love, friendship, family and passion!’
Sharon says: ‘Living by Best Life is one of those stories where you find yourself thinking about the characters when you’re not reading, wondering what they’re getting up to because you’re emotionally invested in them and want to be a part of what happens. I didn’t want to let them go.’
Petra says: ‘So fresh, so now and so so sparkly. Warms your heart and puts a smile on your face. Portraits perfect picture of girl power and honesty. Loved it.’
Claire Frost grew up in Manchester, the middle of three sisters. She always wanted to do a job that involved writing, so after studying Classics at Bristol University she started working in magazines. For the last 10 years she’s been at The Sun on Sunday’s Fabulous magazine, where she is Assistant Editor and also responsible for the title’s book reviews. She can mostly be found at her desk buried under a teetering TBR pile.
Claire says, ‘When it comes to women’s fiction, the Books and the City dream team are the best in the business, so when they gave me the opportunity to work with them I couldn’t say yes fast enough. As a debut author, knowing that I have the support and knowledge of the team behind me at all times is invaluable. I can’t wait to begin my author career with the Digital Originals crew and the wider S&S family.’
